The presence of the potent hallucinogenic psychoactive chemical N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) in the human body has puzzled scientists for decades; this makes it very different from all other drugs, because it's a natural part of all of us. It was investigated in the 1960s and 1970s and it was proposed that DMT was involved in causing psychosis and schizophrenia. This has never been convincingly proved.

Injection of the drug rapidly causes altered states of consciousness, and leads to experiences which have the properties of alternate realities. Some have felt that the experience of alien abduction is a result in a natural increase in a person's DMT level. Some have felt that the alternate realities experienced are indeed real, which may be provable by experiment.

Terence McKenna, Robert Hunter, and the Grateful Dead experimented with DMT decades ago. The conclusion was that the substance was far too powerful ever to be used recreationally. Very strange, since DMT is found naturally in every human body; it's possibly produced in the pineal gland, which is believed to be the base of our consciousness and dreams.

It's possible that DMT is a kind of link or gateway between the physical and spritual nature of mankind. Theologians like to tell us that body, soul and spirit are completely separate. But this chemical shows how intimately linked our bodies and spirits may be.

There are many things that some peoples should not play around with. Things affect peoples differently.
Some science Dr.s also finding that stimulation of pinials or primative brain stem can bring feeling like those known as "near death tunel of lights" experiences.
Theologians like to tell many things but have they been there? So who can answer for sure but I am most curious about what you are saying about spirit and soul? Are they two for you? And then where is mind fitting in?
Mine I try and keep in moment but it is seeming to be in those spaces inbetween cells so is lots and lots of thought.

Stress and depression is known to move nerve cells so without different perspectives sometimes these nerve endings can stay attached to bad and sad thinking. But they can move and reattach to more positive energies as well for some peoples.
I hate the tv telling peoples to just take pills because one side of brain is not signaling stimulation evenly. Tests need to be done on each persons before just to be blindly taking medications that are poison to so many with brain cell or central nervous system difficulties.

I'm not advocating that anyone should take any drug...though I am dependent on them myself to survive.

We are chemical creatures, but wer'e spirit too. How are the two linked, if at all? I strongly believe they are, and the concept of morphogenetic fields proposed by Sheldrake goes some way to explaining it. We accept electric,magnetic and gravitational fields without a second thought..but we have absolutely no idea what they are or why they work. To understand consciousness and spirit as part of some kind of universal field may be helpful. There are certainly very strong connections between each and every one of us.

There may not be any. I think it's more useful (if not accurate) to consider man's existance to be physical and non-physical (spiritual). The problem is, we have no idea what the nature of man's spiritual existance is, because we have no way of examining or testing it.
