John,

To the seven churches in the province of Asia:

Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God.

And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth." These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die.


The seven spirits/lampstands of God have generally been accepted as the Holy Spirit. But Rev 11 clearly depicts that two of the lampstands/spirits are witnesses for God in the end times. Over church history, these two have been assumed to be the OT prophets Elijah and Enoch, or possibly Moses. If that's the case, they would be two individuals amongst the seven spirits of God.

The 24 are believed to be symbolic of the 12 patriarchs of Israel (sons of Jacob) and the 12 apostles of Jesus, (Judas Iscariot being replaced by St. Matthias).

So they wouldn't seem to be angels...

Of course. But we need to get a clear understanding of who God is, and who we are. Elijah learned over a difficult life who he was (1 Kings). And he departed on wheels of fire. It was then that Elisha, his understudy, realised who he was (2 Kings).

DMT (dimethyltryptamine) is a highly psychotropic drug produced in a human's own body...more potent that any of the others mentioned. But I don't think John boy was taking drugs when he produced the book of Revelation..the visions are too coherent and well ordered.

Likewise Daniel's apocalyptic visions in Babylon...though his visions did make him so ill that he had to retire to bed for days
