I have never been able to appreciate Self-Portrait.

Sandrine
01-06-2011, 03:55 PM
Sometimes, I like when that enters slowly. Self Portrait is in this case.
There are artists that I give one chance not two. Bob Dylan, with him, I always try.
After of course, I have my favourite(s) albums and my favourite(s) song(s).
And he doesn't propose us the sempiternal same song with the same melody....

I have never been able to appreciate Self-Portrait.

Neither have I...probably because I've never heard a single song off it (as far as I know). I am not a great fan of Bob at all pre-1974.

I like Freewheeling Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and John Wesley Harding a lot. Blonde on Blonde has grown on me. They're my favorite pre-74 albums.

I'm gonna forego a sex joke here.

I know exactly what you mean about a song or album that grows on you and takes time for you to appreciate. That could take a few months, or a couple of years. But I first heard Self-Portrait in 1975, I own it on cd and listened to it a couple of times when I got it, trying harder to appreciate it, but after 35 years it still hasn't grown on me.

To find original Bob Dylan's songs (for Self Portrait) on youtube is like finding a purple unicorn.

L'hôpital qui se fout de la charité..

You wrote twice in French. It was very bad in syntax, in spelling, in grammar.

Yeah Landy maybe you should sweep up the dirt in front of your own house before you pick on your neighbor"s mess. Go practice your French before you pick on Sandrine's English.

(I wasn't gonna come here no more, but I like to kick stuck up people's butts too much)

Isis

Even though I was talking to somebody dear to me the other day and I said something clever (or not so clever) like it is much better that you are nice and caring people and maybe not so rich than for you to be filthy rich and be stuck up.

The reaction was a lot of laughter and comments like Oh but I would accept the stuck up for a lot of money ha ha ha ha

Well I think we can all forget about the old traditional values and ethical values then.........sigh....don't know where this world is going no more.

(Ok all you stuck up filthy rich arrogant people you win again then?)

Isis

Although it is not a crime to be rich. Andre Agassi is very rich but not stuck up at all. What a nice human being he seems to be. I was so impressed when I saw an interview with him on channel 13.
