and should we believe theres any substance in this? Dylan is not renowned for being exactly consistent but....
So there we have it.The purpose of the Never Ending Tour is not to entertain his fans with his music oh no nothing as prosaic as that, it's to spread the gospel according to Bob as recorded by his Disciple Kent in his letters to all six members of My Back Pages.
Dylan is creating the empire, presumably in preparation for the return of the "Big one", as revealed to Kent :der:
It's not explained how or why or when and who'll run this empire and how the Chinese govmt and Muslims will react or any other details[ though no doubt we'll get selective and edited comments and lines to "prove" it], it doesn't explain why the empire should be set up through a medium as transitory or as unpredictable as Rock music[ because Dylan isnt exactly a huge seller] or even if enough accolytes are getting the message when they see Emperor Bob perform his gospels [at £40 a time]:crackhead:
Now,as Bob theories go, this , to be fair, is right up there with the nuttiest and most deluded Ive ever read in my 45 years as a Dylan fan,and I dont know whether to roll about laughing or shake my head in pity but I certainly believe it debases a great songwriters work and would appal the man.
