Obviously 5 Believers
Early in the mornin'
Early in the mornin'
I'm callin' U2
I'm callin' U2
Please come home
Yes, I guess I could make it without you
If I just didn't feel so all alone
Don't let me down
Don't let me down
I won't let you down
I won't let you down
No I won't
You know I can if you can, honey
But, honey, please don't
I got my black dog barkin'
Black dog barkin'
Yes it is now
Yes it is now
Outside my yard
Yes, I could tell you what he means
If I just didn't have to try so hard
Your mama's workin'
Your mama's moanin'
She's cryin' you know
She's tryin' you know
You better go now
Well, I'd tell you what she wants
But I just don't know how
Fifteen jugglers
Fifteen jugglers
Five believers
Five believers
All dressed like men
Tell yo' mama not to worry because
They're just my friends
Early in the mornin'
Early in the mornin'
I'm callin' U2
I'm callin' U2
Please come home
Yes, I could make it without you
If I just did not feel so all alone

No. the Who played during halftime at the SuperBowl. The Who isn't U2, they are a completely different band. U2 is from Ireland. They like warm beer

The best Guinness is ok, if you like that sort of syrupy dark brown brew. I like Harp beer way better, though.
We are the world, we are Guinness

Wait! 9 believers! you forgot The Monkees!! "I'm a believer" so add them , I still dont get it though, whats "obvious"? and what
' the belief?
God I have a hang over!

whats "obvious"? and what
' the belief
Obvious 1: Dylan + U2 are 5 believers. Dylan recently stated he's a true believer; each member of U2 professes Christian belief (though in the case of Adam Clayton, only recently). Dylan and U2 are indeed 5 believers.
Obvious 2: The song OFB has the phrase yoo-too four times. This could be heard as you to, you too, you two or even U2. The positioning of the phase within the two verses is unusual; the flow of the verse is split, allowing more than one meaning to be inferred.
Obvious 3: The phrase Monkees does not occur in OFB...was the group ever known as the Jugglers?
Obvious 4: The song can't be about U2 the band because they didn't exist when the song was written (c 1965?)
Obvious 5: One's mind can play interesting tricks in all kinds of ways...

no you numpty I was being sarcastic! you banging on the same boring issue all the time is doing our heads in, yes we know he dabbled in fundementalism, yes he probably does believe in God but so fucking what? he's right handed too just like lots of other people...the truth is you probably never listened to him prior to 79 and wouldnt now if you didnt identify with him like you do, cant you just accept him as a musician?? ffs...and I wouldnt necessarily believe some of the things he says either, so why dont you just fucking drop it for a while and write about something else for a change ...Jeezuss

Ok - you want me to suggest something?why ? Dylan's career is nearly 50 years so theres plenty and this guy just goes on and on and fucking on about Dylan apparently being a Christian, fuck me shall we start a thread on Dylan having blue eyes? is it relevant? not really, and of no interest to many of us there are other things the guy has done, ok heres one then, why did Dylan stop singing protest songs? or what about Dylans nastiest lyric?...you know I get the feeling that if we talking about Dylans toilet habits he'd bring in how many times the word shit is mentioned in Horeb ch 2 v3 or draw comparison between Dylan's toilet and the one used by Christ...anyway Wales are playing like shit and I'm pretty pissed off with them

At no point have I said Dylan is a Christian or Jew or prophet, nor have I ever stated that he's a Satanist, even in fun. I feel he is beyond any definitions of this kind.
But the use of powerful images / symbols is clearly condemned in the Old Testament. They should not be used for any reason (Commandment no. 3); and I'm absolutely serious about this one.

Yes you have you refer to it all the time thats what "Believer" was to you.and no, no ones interested in some arcane nonsense about idols, why is that crap slipped in? - we treat Dylan like an idol its called fan worship, why does admiring someone have to be evil? oh and statues and pictures and photos,is God so insecure he cant have competition? your fuckin barmy, that threat was written by some goatherd 3000 years ago when the Jews were trying to monopolise the worship industry, it means NOTHING you plank...so give us a break and rejoin Property of Jesus and go on some Fundie site or else give it a break and discuss something with no religious overtones...perleeeseee

Recent U2 interview:
The Edge: Looking back, there are so many bands that, at different times, were considered to be the zenith of what was important and relevant and resonant but who are now gone. Having lived though the whole rock Vs disco thing, it’s a shock to realise that disco was better than most rock. Bands like the Bee Gees, OK, they had terrible dress sense and not everything they did was great, but their best work is genius.
So that’s kind of our challenge, we’re not surprised that at times we’re written off as being on the wrong side of artistic credibility. There have been so many groups that have tried desperately to hold on to their status of cool and just ended up becoming so bloody safe and repetitive. They end up in a ghetto of their own making artistically.
Bono: I laugh out loud listening to Morrissey albums. Only Bob Dylan and Morrissey make me laugh. Sometimes, I’ll be listening to the music and doing some press-ups and I’ll fall over.
Bono might seem like a saint but he can be a devil when it comes to driving.
The Edge: Bono’s a ‘creative’ driver who sees the rules of the road as helpful suggestions. He’s fine as long as he’s not trying to play you music at the same time, because male brains are more mono-orientated. Female brains have more connections between the two sides – that’s an actual fact. Men tend to be great focusing on details of things as a result. Bono’s incredible at keeping the wide-angle view, but when he’s driving he really can’t. He has terrified people at different times trying to play our work in his car while he’s driving.
Musicians and politicians can work together – if only because they’re all human beings.
The Edge: I know Bono gets stick for meeting with politicians, but he cares deeply. That’s not so unique – a lot of people out there care deeply – but what probably is unique is that he has opportunities that very few other people have. I think if you were to ask him he would admit to being amazed how successful his initiatives have become, how many of the doors of power have actually swung open and the influence he’s been able to have.
I suppose it says that, in the end, no matter whether you’re the Prime Minister of Britain or the President of the United States or the Chancellor of Germany, you’re a human being and it’s about relationships and it’s about everyone wanting to do the right thing in the end. Whether you want to admit it or not, I don’t think there’s a politician in the world that’s ever got into politics who didn’t want to do the right thing.
If you’re gonna get into politics, one of the great calling cards if you’re doing what Bono is doing is to be bipartisan; this is not about supporting one side or the other in political terms, it’s about just getting the job done with whoever he has to work with.

All fair points. But I like and respect U2, for lots of reasons. They are also widely hated...also maybe for good reasons.
I also happen to like their music. The video for Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me should captivate anyone interested in the link between pop art and evangelical theology. Dualism and the Antichrist are major themes. Take a good look...what do you see??

I was sad to see that none of Dylan's records were included in the Pope's top ten rock albums. I had some consolation from the fact that U2's Achtung Baby was chosen. A Dylan album I would have picked for the Pope's top 10 would be JHWH. But here's a song from AB that I really like. I know some folks here like AB so this is for you..

One of the 'guests' was viewing it. I'd forgotten that I'd posted it. And here's a quite nice rocky version of the song.

I wasnt too enamoured of the original tbh, I suspect this was better there than it is on you-tube, it's very messy, vocally and musically I suppose you like it because of the word "Believer" eh :)
